Exploring the Admissions Process at TONCA
The Tohono O’odham Nursing Care Authority (TONCA) and our two elder care facilities welcome inquiries from new residents. Please note that for a patient to receive care at the Archie Hendricks Sr. Skilled Nursing Facility, they must be referred to our Nation facility by another healthcare facility. Admission to the Tohono O’odham Elder Assisted Living Residence is initiated by the elder, often with the assistance of their loved ones.
Starting the Process
The admissions process begins with a conversation with one of our administrative staff members. We’ll explain all of the documentation you will need, such as documents from your primary care provider. We’ll also discuss financial coverage. We encourage elders who are thinking of moving to our long-term assisted living facility to schedule a tour in advance so they can meet their new neighbors and caregivers, and explore the amenities.
Arranging for Financial Coverage
TONCA works collaboratively with elders and their families to identify funding sources. Some subsidies may be available from the Tohono O’odham Nation. All tribal members can receive our services regardless of their ability to pay. Here’s a quick look at the steps involved with arranging for financial coverage.
- Identify potential sources of funding
- Gather needed documentation
- Submit the applications
- Receive an answer and advise TONCA accordingly
Our staff can help you apply for funding from sources such as AHCCS-ALTCS (pronounced “access all-tex”). This is Arizona’s Medicaid system that offers financial coverage for long-term care in both assisted living and skilled nursing elder care facilities. Other funding sources may include:
- Medicare
- Veterans Administration (VA) benefits
- Private medical insurance
- Private long-term care insurance
